INFLUENCES AND PERSPECTIVES
(Or, things you might want to know about a therapist)
Therapy Models
I have training in and draw from the following therapeutic models: Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Relational Life Therapy, The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Feel free to ask any questions about how I use these models.
Specialities
I chose my graduate program because I knew I wanted to work with relationships. The majority of my work is with couples who are working through relationship challenges, and with individuals who are recognizing the need to shift their relationship with themselves.Â
Couples Approach
I see couples therapy as a concurrent, three-part process. There’s an individual process for each of you, which also influences and is influenced by the interactional process between you. Let’s see more clearly what’s happening on to you and between you when something isn’t feeling good, then try to shift what’s happening into something more likely to lead to connection.Â
Individual Approach
I take a very relational approach to individual therapy. I appreciate a “parts” metaphor and mindfulness approaches for deepening self-understanding and expanding our options for responding to life. We’ll explore your history of experience in important relationships and use it to develop a clearer understanding of how you’re showing up in the here and now.Â
Where I'm Coming From
I believe relationships are our most potent venues for healing and growth,
and I’m here to help you feel more connected to the people you love and to yourself.
